The Friends of Arlington Parks...
- Is a volunteer group of private citizens who share an interest in preserving and extending the Arlington public park system;
- Encourages residents' usage of parks for passive and recreational purposes;
- Stimulates support for enhancements of the park environment and facilities;
- Keeps a friendly but watchful eye on park-related programs and funds of the County government;
- Issues a newsletter in Arlington dedicated to matters affecting the County's parks; and
- Welcomes new members year-round!
Typical Activities Include...
- Examining park facilities for possible improvements;
- Reviewing proposed changes in parkland plans and methods;
- Conferring with other civic groups and County authorities;
- Scrutinizing County budgets and parkland omissions/savings;
- Nominating sites for potential acquisition as parkland;
- Studying the merits of proposed park bond referendums; and
- Developing positions on park related issues and presenting these positions to the County Board.
Also, on a monthly basis we select one park in the county as our "Park of the Month". We visit the park, note the condition of the grounds, facilities, etc., produce a report, and submit it to the Director, Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Resources (DPRCR).
